Restoring A Ruined Earth: The Heroic Mission of Thomas Berry, By Vincent DeStefano

Earth In Our Hands

According to Thomas Berry, we are presently hovering on the edge of an immense cultural and existential abyss. He is of the view that only a change of epic dimensions will enable us to successfully navigate our way through the accumulated detritus of a dying industrial civilisation. He proposes that this can only be accomplished by consciously envisioning the task ahead, a task which he refers to as The Great Work . The changes to be made are not so much in our methods, but in our minds and more particularly, in our relationship with the earth’s living systems. The rest will then follow. . . . → Read More: Restoring A Ruined Earth: The Heroic Mission of Thomas Berry, By Vincent DeStefano

Solstice Approaches, Unnoticed, By James Carroll

Summer Solstice

Intimate awareness of nature and its cycles, as we saw, was an ancient mode of survival. But survival is at issue again. Noticing the length of light now, reveling in the sun’s achievement, rejoicing in Earth’s perfect balance, honoring the summer solstice — loving it: This is how we became human, and it is how we stay human. . . . → Read More: Solstice Approaches, Unnoticed, By James Carroll

Witnessing The End of An Era, By Llewellyn Vaughn-Lee

Collapse 4

In March this year (2011) the science journal Nature announced what many people already knew, that there are clear indications that the world’s Sixth Mass Extinction is already underway. The last mass extinction came some 65 million years ago when a comet or asteroid slammed into the Yucatan peninsula, in modern-day Mexico, causing firestorms whose dust cooled the planet, and an estimated 76 percent of species were killed, including the dinosaurs. The four previous mass extinction of species were due to gradual global warming and cooling, and happened on a scale of hundreds of thousands to millions of years. What is particular about our present mass extinction is that it has happened so quickly over a few centuries, and most significantly, it is man made. “The modern global mass extinction is a largely unaddressed hazard of climate change and human activities.” . . . → Read More: Witnessing The End of An Era, By Llewellyn Vaughn-Lee

Peak Psychotherapy, Abundant Human Connection, By Carolyn Baker

Human Connection

For me, the topic of peak psychotherapy is not about wild speculation regarding the status of mental or other health care two decades from now. Will psychotherapy even exist, and if it does, what will it look like? We cannot answer that with certainty, but it is safe to assume that it will look very different from how it looks today and that however it looks in the future, it will be accessible to many fewer people than it is in present time—which may or may not be a good thing. . . . → Read More: Peak Psychotherapy, Abundant Human Connection, By Carolyn Baker

Bolivia At UN: We Cannot Command Nature Except By Obeying Her

Connection With Nature

We are here today to attempt to have a dialogue not just among States, but also with nature. Although we often forget it, human beings are a force in nature. In reality, we are all a product of the same Big Bang that created the universe, although some only see wood for the fire when they walk through the forest. . . . → Read More: Bolivia At UN: We Cannot Command Nature Except By Obeying Her

Introduction Excerpt From Navigating The Coming Chaos: A Handbook For Inner Transition, By Carolyn Baker

Navigating Cover Picture

In the deepest sense Navigating The Coming Chaos is a handbook for midwifing the birth that is struggling to be embodied through the great death that is erupting, and like any authentic handbook of sacred midwifery, it is at once stringently unsentimental in its facing of the gritty and grueling process of birth, and loving and joyful in its depiction of what could be possible. Foreword By Andrew Harvey, author of The Hope: A Guide To Sacred . . . → Read More: Introduction Excerpt From Navigating The Coming Chaos: A Handbook For Inner Transition, By Carolyn Baker

Is There An Ecological Unconscious? By Daniel B. Smith

Labyrinth 2

[Think the collapse of industrial civilization is nothing more than a physical phenomenon requiring only logistical preparation? This brilliant New York Times article from earlier this year argues otherwise. It is even more relevant than it was 11 months ago.--CB]
