In his talk, Guy refers to Richard Dawkins, which for me raises the question of what Dawkins and other prominent public scientific intellectuals, such as, say, Jerry Coyne of Why Evolution Is True fame, have to say about climate catastrophe. As far as I know, they are mute on the subject. Why is that?
For a complete answer to this read Derrick Jensen’s book “Dreams.” My short answer is that these guys are wedded to the power of the rational mind, science, and technology to solve all problems. When you understand catastrophic climate change, you understand that you are dealing with something that you cannot control and that in the final analysis, catapults you into the core of a spiritual and emotional journey.
