“The heavens were all on fire; the earth did tremble.”
–William Shakespeare
Henry IV, Part 1
For much of my life, I thought our species would soon go extinct. I assumed we might last another hundred years if we were lucky. Now I suspect we are facing extinction in the near future. Can I speculate as to exactly when that might happen? Of course not. My sense of this is based only on probability. It might be similar to hearing about a diagnosis of late stage pancreatic cancer. Is it definite that the person is going to die soon? No, not definite. Is it highly probable? Yes, one would be wise to face the likelihood and put one’s affairs in order.
The end of civilization is like the end of your life. Appreciating your mortal moments is what should be done anyway. I don’t dwell in my death, the horror of a difficult one, nor will I dwell on this. I hope it can motivate me to live a better

Ah, I’ve been censored–why would anyone’s truth have to be censored if we are truly looking at the end times–where on the edge of extinction only the truth [no matter whose feelings it hurts] and love remain? But this article is apparently not about everyman/woman’s truth–but only truth from a particular group who seem to have a hold on the global narrative to include the Extinction Religion: Same old, same old. You go girl!
Wah, wah. Your previous comment was nonsensical and very unclear. I am happy to post it if you make a statement using clear, complete sentences without resorting to sniveling and cynical statements that make your comment unclear. If you need to play the victim, feel free to do so, but not on my site. Let’s reset.
Extinction was always staring us in the face. Ask any geologist. There is comfort in reading geology, which is nothing more than the history of our planet. Five billion years is a long time and the movement of the earth’s plates, the building of mountains and their erosion, the raising of continents and their being swept into the oceans, volcanism, and changes in the chemistry of the planet and it’s atmospheres give comfort to those who seek to understand the wonder of life, it’s variety, and it’s extinctions. Humans and their relatives are a short burst in the cycle. Visit a beach in the Delaware estuaries and daily you will see hundreds, no thousands of horseshoe crabs, whose simple drive to reproduce leaves behind their hulks and traces of their annular wanderings across the sandy shore. They have been doing this for some 440 million years. Without a deity the earth came out of the debris of our solar system and without a deity, guided only by laws of gravity, it will someday be swallowed up in our galactic black hole. It’s about as poetic as watching the water drain out of your bathtub—with you having the privilege as a conscious observer to witness.

This was written by the same ego that is destroying the planet! You should know you cannot shake a baby without killing it! There are alternatives to the fear, worry and loss you conveniently epitomize. If you really want to solve the problems you raise then don’t waste your time playing to the choir it only strokes your ego. There is an answer but you need to listen instead of speak!
Thank you for the article that force us to face unbarnished truth and reality. I believe the obstacle (how horrific and uncomfortable) is the path. I appreciate Ingram’s courage to step forward to share this truth and reality with us. I celebrate it!!!
Hard to put much Stock into her article when she seems to think that the “flyover states” are so much worse than the coastal states. Totally not true. What else here is equally wrong? The article is thought provoking but filled with questionable “information”
It’s about time the tech geeks and the Mars people were given a dosage of reality.
But in a society where trivia and short attention spans rule the day and where technology is worshipped at the altar of science there is not much hope that the message will register. So party on and keep dreaming of Mars. The Earth will certainly breathe a huge sigh of relief when H Sapiens is gone………
